These falls, on the Mitchell River in the far north of Western Australia, tumble over several cascades from the renowned Mitchell Plateau, home of a diverse range of eucalypts and palms. Erosion of joints in the rocky plateau has created deep and narrow gorges, resulting in high waterfalls and deep permanent pools.
The dark stain covering the rocks indicates the water level during the brief but spectacular wet season.
